New York State Assembly District 31 

Parts of Arverne, Brookville, Far Rockaway, Hammels, Rosedale, South Ozone Park, South Richmond Hill and Springfield Gardens.

Assembly District 31 consists of Southeast Queens, and the Rockaways. The district is specifically composed of Rosedale, Far Rockaway, and Springfield Gardens. The South Valley Stream and Woodmere are towns in Nassau county that border Assembly District 31 to the east. While Ozone Park and Jamaica borders Assembly District 31 on the northern and western sides. Jamaica Bay sits to the south. Assembly District 31 serves a variety of people, hailing from many different backgrounds. Assembly District 31 is 47% black, 22% Hispanic, and 15% Asian. The community is full of hard-working immigrant populations, many blue collar, and white collar individuals alike.

In this district, there are issues that have been allowed to run rampant; left unresolved by lawmakers. The community suffers from being a transportation desert, where many public transit lines are inaccessible to some areas within our district lines. Many of the lines that do run through our district, unfortunately have bad schedules, which conflict with many working people’s schedules. Assembly district 31 has also become a food desert, in which grocery stores are scarce, and the number of delis and fast food chains outweigh healthy organic food options, this negatively affects resident’s health. This disproportionately causes long term health effects such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

Assembly District 31 also has high incidents of gun violence, which must be addressed. In order to keep our community safe, and to not hinder the lives of our residents. Assembly District 31 has five public housing developments, allowing for affordable housing for everyone, increasing the fight against homelessness and displacement.
